Episode 109. Commitment, Not Action, Boosting Your Metabolism at Your Desk & More.

In this week's episode, Jack and I discussed our interpretations of the quote, "The thing that makes the action extraordinary is the commitment to it, not the nature of the action."

In other words, it's the commitment that is more valuable than the action alone.

Going to the gym one time (the action) won't give you extraordinary results. However, going to the gym multiple times a week, month after month (commitment), will give you extraordinary results.

Often once we achieve a goal, we look to our recent past to see what we have done differently in the last few weeks, when what has actually helped us change is our commitment to all of the mundane actions.

Next, we discussed new research showing that soleus push-ups (seated calf raises) can improve your metabolism and glucose utilization while sitting at your desk!

The soleus is a small muscle in your calf that is designed to take on a long-duration load without becoming fatigued. For example, standing for long periods or walking long distances.

You can do soleus push-ups while sitting at your desk simply by placing your hips and knees at 90-degree angles (seated position) and repeatedly raising your heels from the ground.

This action signals to your body that you are, in fact, on the move, improving your metabolism and glucose utilization, helping with weight loss or maintenance and regular energy balance throughout the day.

Can too much protein cause increased urea? How and why does that happen, how nutritionally can you lower it, and what are the health risks?

Should I focus on weight loss or muscle building to improve knee pain?
