Episode 107. What grinds our gears, self-sabotage, dopamine and a bunch more.
Episode 107. What grinds our gears, self-sabotage, dopamine and a bunch more.
This week we introduced a new segment called "What Grinds Our Gears." Where we talk about the health and fitness fads and influencers that, well... grind our gears!
The first topic was low-calorie foods being idolised. Many influencers put low calorie-highly processed foods on a podium simply because that is how they know how to stay small. But in their next post, they complain about their hair finally growing back after majorly undereating for years.
Second, on the firing line was when people refused to drink protein shakes because they are processed. However, they are happy to go out every weekend, drink alcohol, and eat fast food.
Are you self-sabotaging?
"It's easy to self-sabotage because it enables you to predict the future and gives you an illusion of control."
We can often find ourselves self-sabotaging in an effort not to change. This can be true in health, fitness, relationships, business and life.
We speak about when we have noticed ourselves doing this and how you can break out of the cycle.
Doing hard things is more rewarding for your brain than taking the easy option.
Instant "reward" is all around us! The list is endless: social media, views, streaming, television, drugs, alcohol, fast food, and processed food.
We don't often have to work hard for that dopamine hit. However, our lack of trying is actually diminishing our reward system.
How often do you work hard for a hit of dopamine?
Have you let social media take time away from your health and/or fitness?
Listener Questions:
How to know if you are training hard enough?
How to be consistent with a training schedule when you have a busy life?
